Pursue Love

God’s word says ”Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy, being able to encourage others...” The phrase “Pursue love...” struck me when I read it.

We all pursue many things and it is definitely important to go after our work, earn money, pay bills and be responsible people. God expects those things but He is also saying we should pursue love and has told us how to pursue it.

It is time for us to grow and mature in His Love. We are to pursue Love like we do every other thing. To pursue love is to say “Lord, I want to grow and mature in your Love , help me Lord when I am tempted and even when I fall”

A change in attitude towards others is a sign that you are working towards expressing God’s love, pursuing love takes a deliberate effort. Here is how you walk in love.

Look at the life of Christ and follow His ways. This is not impossible as many believe. As believers, we have the capacity to handle situations like Jesus would.

Being Christian doesn’t make us immune to negative situations but our beliefs shape our attitude towards the situation Set love as a goal. Working towards love as a goal gives direction and guides our actions daily.

Practice endless forgiveness: Even at the point of death Jesus prayed for forgiveness for his killers “Father, forgive them…” Jesus laid down the template for us to follow in practicing forgiveness.

Leverage on God’s power to overcome temptations. Ask Him for help when faced with difficult choices. When we overcome temptation, we make progress with God and receive His reward.

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life….” (James 1:12)
